We planned this shoot maybe a week before and, I’ll admit, sometimes I’m a bit of a scramble-head. At least, if that was a thing, I would be it. So we drove the hour trek to Hamilton from London, the whole time I’m glancing at the clock thinking “dang, I didn’t think we were that late getting out the door,” and when we get there we’re all (though the other two admittedly less so than me) stressing out thinking “oh no, we only have 40 minutes until sunset, there’s no way we’re finding parking, doing the 20 minute hike, and getting changed BEFORE the sun goes down, and also, look at all those CLOUDS, we won’t even be able to see the sun if we do make it”.
First parking option: blocked off.
Second parking option: an hour walk back and the last shuttle would be leaving as soon as we got there.
Third parking option (and 20 minutes later): only a ten minute walk from trailhead and looking prime.
As we’re grabbing our bags out of the car, a light bulb comes on in my stressed out little head. It’s not 6:40, it’s 5:40. Sunset in October is just before 7. We had SO much time. And about the clouds, they cleared out for about 5 minutes and gave way to some GORGEOUS red sunset light that you’ll see in the last couple photos which allowed for one of my all-time favourite captures.
Enjoy.
