I’ve always dreamed of owning a waterfront home, and this new build design by Daphne feels like perfect inspiration with every detail suiting this modern lakehouse in Ontario. The dark brown exteriors wood and the warm neutrals and reeded millwork in the kitchen, paired with a cozy fireplace (it just wouldn’t be complete without one). The mudroom is a dark, moody green and the bedroom and ensuite are layered with soft neutrals.

The exterior of the home features dark wood paired with black windows, creating a moody aesthetic that sets the tone for the rest of the house. Capturing the exterior, with drone shots and handhelds, required careful timing—those short Canadian winter days meant I had to plan ahead and start earlier than I normally would to make the most of the limited daylight.

This kitchen leans into a modern Scandinavian lake house feel in such a natural, effortless way, with textured, earthy finishes and warm neutral tones. The black backsplash and black chairs add just the right amount of contrast, and there’s plenty of storage throughout the space. A built in arched cabinet brings in a softer, custom detail that ties everything together.
I’ve been shooting more interior projects lately where homeowners are adding thoughtful touches for their pets, and this one is such a great example. For this project, Daphne designed a cutout feeding area at the end of the island, a subtle detail that fits seamlessly into the space and low key makes me and my pup Jordy jealous.

As I’ve mentioned, the fireplace really is a highlight of the living room, especially in a modern lakehouse in Ontario like this one. The space is designed around a huge half circular couch that easily seats a crowd, making it perfect for hosting. Or the kind of spot you can picture yourself curled up on with a book in the evening, surrounded by large windows that bring in tons of natural light and offer a gorgeous view.

The mudroom millwork is designed in dark, moody green tones. I have to mention the creative touch of the curved cabinet—it keeps you from running into it when entering the room from the garage while still providing tons of storage for essentials. Smart design choices like this not only look beautiful but also make the space functional, which is always such a win!

The guest bath brings in a bold blue colour with a textured subway tile, giving this modern lakehouse in Ontario a fresh feel. I recently used a similar white version in my kitchen, and I love how the subtle variation in each tile adds an elevated touch to the space. The tile is paired with a warm walnut vanity from Teodor and circular black wall light fixtures, creating a perfect balance of boldness and warmth.

The en suite has a fresh, modern lakehouse in Ontario look with light green tones, warm oak accents, and thin rectangular tiling that adds subtle texture. The bedroom continues the airy, natural vibe with exposed beams overhead and corner windows that bring in plenty of light while framing the view outside. Together, these spaces feel cohesive and modern.

Adding a bit of branding photos into the mix, I captured Daphne designing, styling, and interacting with the space. She now has content that feels both personal and purposeful, highlighting a project that was really important to her.
The images tell the full story of the home—from the deep brown exterior and warm, textured kitchen with its thoughtful pet feeding area, to the cozy living room with a fireplace and half circular couch, the moody green mudroom, and the layered bedrooms and en suites with subtle textures and bold accents. They showcase not only the beautiful design details but also the personal touches that make this project so special.
If you have an interior project you’d like to capture, feel free to reach out—I’d love to help bring your vision to life!
