A New Year’s Eve wedding with a stunning view of Parliament in downtown Ottawa, styled with disco balls throughout the venue—what more could you want? The ceremony and reception at Venue Twenty Two were filled with so many incredible details. Before we dive into the photos, we wanted to highlight a few things about the venue. It features a suite on the same floor as the reception, perfect for the bride to get ready in the morning and available for the newlyweds to stay in on their wedding night. The real showstopper, though, is the 270º panoramic view of Parliament Hill, the Ottawa River, and the Gatineau Hills—truly offering some of the best views in the city. For a deeper dive into why this view is so incredible, check out this article by Erica Irwin that perfectly explains it all.
Now, onto this couple’s NYE wedding. Without giving too much away, picture disco balls, all-white floral arrangements, candlelit ambiance, couple’s portraits in the elevator, and an emotional first look in front of Ottawa’s iconic downtown architecture. When documenting your wedding, our goal is to capture the small details that make your day uniquely yours. Your photos should reflect the love, effort, and personal touches that went into creating such a special occasion.

Kicking things off, one of our favourite moments of the day was the first look in front of the Senate of Canada building—a moment filled with anticipation, excitement, and heartfelt tears. After they shared a few moments together, their wedding party joined in, walking over to celebrate with them. It was the perfect opportunity for some candid shots between friends following a few classic formal ones. With so many great moments to choose from, we couldn’t resist including a few film photos. In our humble opinion, it’s always a must in your final gallery.
For their decor, they fully embraced the New Year’s Eve theme and what’s NYE without some disco balls. They were paired white florals under their black & white welcome sign, attached them to place cards, and scattered them throughout the reception space. We just loved the way the disco balls caught the light and added to the party atmosphere. The candles, white florals, and classic black & white details tied everything together. Detail shots in your gallery are like pieces of a puzzle, preserving all the thought, effort, and love you poured into your wedding day, so that once all the stress and decision fatigue is over, you can enjoy the fruits of your labour for way longer than just one weekend.
Our couple wanted their photos to feel less structured, full of movement, and, most importantly—fun. Embracing portraits in the Canadian winter can be a vibe, but for them, it was all about capturing that “just married, running off together” energy. So, that’s exactly what we did. They ran through the hallways, celebrated with a dip kiss in the elevator, and captured every spontaneous moment along the way.
Looking back at your gallery should transport you right back to those special moments with your spouse and you should remember how loved you felt — not how awkward it was having to pose for the camera. We make sure to document not just the big moments, but also the fleeting, in-between ones shared with your loved ones, giving easy direction when needed.
Going back to the start of their day for a second—some couples choose to exchange a special gift for their fiancé to open the morning of their wedding. This groom went all out with a customized comic book telling the story of their relationship in comic strips. Her reaction was priceless. She couldn’t help but laugh (and cry), mentioning that it was surprisingly lengthy but absolutely precious.
Later in the evening, the couple put a unique spin on a classic wedding tradition to their modern black & white wedding. Instead of the usual reception games to prompt a newlywed kiss, they challenged their guests to sink a hole-in-one in a mini golf setup. And let it be known—both the bride and groom had a hole in one.
You want your wedding photos that reflect the true, beautiful story of your day, without the awkward posing part or having your wedding feel more like a photoshoot than a celebration. The kind of images you’ll be itching to display and heart warmed to look back on.
